I take a long slow breath of air to calm down a little and leave the kitchen—where everything is running as smoothly as it can be— behind, stepping into the party hall with both of my hands clutching Thalia’s arm.
I try to walk as steadily as I can on the killer heels my best friend swore were the only thing my short ass could pair with the Empire waist, one-shoulder gown I’m wearing, without ending up with the lower part of its skirt getting under my feet with every step, but I’m still scared I’ll end up face-planting in the middle of the room.
“You’re totally pulling this off, stop worrying,” Thalia whispers, almost reading my mind.
I smile at her. “Thanks, hon.”
I’ll have to admit the Gucci vertiginous traps I’m wearing on my feet didn’t look as comfy as they actually are when I first saw them so I can’t complain, and I’ve never felt more pretty in such an elegant dress in my life.
Since there’s quite a bit of me, not all cuts can reign in my curves and still make me look feminine and sexy, but this gown does it without showing too much skin.
The bodice has all the support I need, it hugs my large breasts and keeps them from succumbing to gravity very nicely, the long, flowing skirt flares out following the natural curvy shape of my hips, and with these heels on, I get much needed precious inches that make the rest of the gown swoosh around my legs without a crease and fall in perfect place over the tips of my shoes.
The things I love the most are the feel and the color of the fabric, though.
The dress is super soft and in a dark blue, almost black silk, dusted in tiny speckles of silver, and is covered with a shimmering slightly lighter almost transparent layer of georgette that makes the shade of blue change depending on the light.
It’s the first time I’ve truly felt both beautiful and comfortable and there’s a small part of me that can’t wait to see if I can get some type of reaction out of Mr. Ballantine tonight.
I know I shouldn’t delude myself, but Thalia’s been going on and on about this gown since I first tried it on and has spent all day telling me how much her brother will like me in it, so a tiny part of me wants to hope a little.
I see Maia and Gaia on the dance floor with David, their grandpa. They are each standing onto one of his feet as he twirls them around. They’re laughing and waving around with their little arms, looking adorable in their princessy dresses and just as sparkly as they wished to be.
I sigh glancing up at my friend, who’s looking utterly stunning in her purple taffeta off-the-shoulder sweetheart gown and I smirk when I see the hint of stockinged thigh emerge from the daring split in the fabric. She’s looking like a princess as well, but there’s nothing sweet and endearing about her gown.
